75. IFA Congress in Cancun, Mexico

Cancun, Mexico
22 Oct - 26 Nov 2023

The 75th International IFA Congress will be held in Cancun, Mexico on October 22-26, 2023. IFA’s global congresses are among the most important events dedicated to international tax law. More than 2,000 practitioners, academics, judges, advisors, government and business representatives will take part in carefully planned debates, panels and meetings. The annual IFA congress is a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience, as well as to anticipate trends and directions for future changes in tax law.

This year, as many as four experts from Poland will be speakers or panelists.

The IFA/EU session, chaired by Georg Kofler (Austria), will feature Dr. Błażej Kuźniacki, Global Senior Manager in Tax Policy & ITS at PwC Nederland, Professor at Łazarski University, winner of this year’s IFA Mitchell B. Carroll Prize. The seminar will address the most pressing developments in international tax law from the EU law perspective, including the European Commission’s corporate tax agenda (including Pillar II and BEFIT), measures targeting aggressive tax planning and harmful tax competition (such as “Unshell” and the revised Code of Conduct), administrative cooperation and transparency, and the impact of the Green Transition on European taxation.

Another area that Seminar H will be devoted to is Recent developments in international taxation. Speakers will discuss recent and landmark court rulings on key cross-border tax issues. The seminar will be moderated by Professor Jonathan Schwarz of King’s College London, and one of the panelists will be Dr. Wojciech Sztuba, CEO of IFA Poland, a partner at TPA Poland, who will discuss the latest case law of the Polish Supreme Administrative Court on the application of the tax credit method.

The Polish accent in the YIN Young IFA Network seminar entitled “Consumption Taxes and the Digital Economy: Where Are We Now?” will be the contribution of Ms. Marta Papis-Almansa, Assistant Professor at the University of Copenhagen. This panel will be chaired by Ms. Martha Ruelas.

What's more, for the past 30 years, an integral part of the congress has been the “Poster Program” – a program designed to encourage students to further their knowledge of international taxation. The winning ten are selected from among the works submitted from around the world. Their authors are given the opportunity to participate in the IFA global congress, present a poster of their authorship that is part of their thesis, and most importantly, discuss the nagging issues of their thesis with congress participants, tax law theorists and practitioners from around the globe. One such award goes to Ms. Emilia Sroka from Poland, who will be presenting a paper she wrote, entitled “Accommodation platforms as deemed suppliers in the European VAT system,” at the congress:
